Summary of comments by panelists:

 

·       There is a palpable sense of movement in the industry.

 

·       We have all matured as a Canadian industry.

 

·       There is great IP here built from great research.

 

·       We have great CEOs here. Veterans who have stuck with it out and fantastic new CEOs who are making things happen. 

 

·       There is great home grown talent in Canada. 

 

·       A critical mass in the industry is emerging

 

·       Service providers have evolved as well - we have the ability to help you get there.

 

·       Companies can be innovative and thrive in Ontario.

 

·       Centers of Excellence are important.

 

·       Institutions like MaRS, OCE and BioDiscovery are doing their job well – helping emerging companies.

 

·       There is tremendous investor depth now to evaluate technology. Investors are discerning.

 

·       Globally there is an appetite for IPOs.

 

·       We are not in a hype driven market – the feeling is of restrained optimism.

 

·       Investing is about relationships - if you want to have a viable domestic industry you need local VCs with good partnerships in Europe and the US.

 

·       Now great companies don’t have to migrate south of the boarder to succeed. There is no glass ceiling.

 

·       Attracting money is essential but it is there if you are strategic about it.

 

·       Industry champions have emerged in Canada.
